Amsterdam → Melbourne

Remco Keijzer is a Dutch-born tenor saxophonist, composer and arranger based in Melbourne.

Born in the Netherlands, Remco began his formal music education at the Hilversum Jazz Conservatory before relocating to Amsterdam at 21 to immerse himself in the city’s jazz scene.

During his studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory, he founded KEIJZER5, an ensemble of leading young jazz talents. The group gained significant recognition with an appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2005.

Remco completed a Master of Music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2003, then moved to New York to continue his studies at Manhattan School of Music.

From 2006 to 2008, he toured internationally and recorded with the Dutch hip-hop collective Pete Philly & Perquisite, playing saxophone, flute and EWI.

His international career continued with a move to Australia in 2011, where he led his own quartet and performed with the Sydney-based Keijzer/McGuiness Quintet.

His discography includes The Seed Habit (2009) with the Keijzer/McGuiness Quintet and Dualism (2012), a collaboration with pianist Matt McMahon featuring original compositions. In 2018, he produced and recorded with Alinta & the Jazz Emperors and the nine-piece Hook Turn Orchestra.

Remco is also part of the Australian theatre scene. His credits include Singin’ in the Rain (2013), The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (2014), the touring production of Chicago in 2019 and 2024, and the Melbourne production of TINA – The Tina Turner Musical.

Remco toured Europe and Australia with the American funk outfit Charles Walker & The Dynamites. His other touring and recording work includes Miss Lauryn Hill, The Temptations, You Am I, Hugh Jackman, Michael Bublé, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and The Bamboos.
